Community Health and Healing Event: Cross-Racial Solidarity

On February 25, our member health center Asian Health Services (AHS) co-hosted the Community Health and Healing Event at Wilma Chan Park with the Urban Strategies Council, California Department of Public Health, and Community Partnerships and Strategic Communications Department under the Governor’s Office.

Fourteen community organizations came together to provide COVID-19 vaccine and testing, blood pressure screening, food distribution, yoga, art, and cultural performances. Speakers from AHS, our other member health center, West Oakland Health, Urban Strategies Council, Community Partnerships and Strategic Communications Department, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the Office of Assemblymember Mia Bonta, were in attendance. Under the clear blue sky, many community members showed up, connected, and celebrated Lunar New Year and Black History Month in a shared space. AHS staff co-led the event coordination and received high praise from community members, partners, and the governor’s office.

This will be part of an ongoing effort to model collaboration and promote solidarity.
