Asian Health Services Continues Their AANHPI Coalition Work

In 2023, health equity-focused community-based leaders, researchers, and funders came together to deepen relationships, build awareness of the current policy and research landscape, and identify opportunities to collaborate on shared advocacy priorities across the state to advance health equity for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities. The efforts of this group led to the development of a three-year, statewide AA and NHPI policy and research agenda to achieve health equity. The policy and research agenda focuses on priority areas of data disaggregation, language access, and mental health.

On April 15, 2024, our member health center, Asian Health Services was in Sacramento with the AANHPI Health Equity Coalition to connect, strategize, and take action at the State Capitol to advance on their three-year statewide health equity policy and research agenda on areas of:

  1. Data disaggregation
  2. Language access
  3. Mental health

In the morning, the coalition strategized and met with Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine), Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen and Assemblymember Phil Ting. The coalition then spent the afternoon visiting legislators about these three topics and ended the day testifying during the Human Services Hearing about Senate Bill 1078 in creating an Office of Language Access at the state level.
