Asian Health Services’ Community Healing Event
On Friday February 25, 2022, Asian Health Services (AHS) held a Community Healing Event at Madison Park in Oakland. It was a dual celebration in honor of the Year of the Tiger and Black History Month. The celebration included the Heiwa Taiko drummers & Ras Carlton from the Northwest Nyabinghi Drummers; poetry from Black Arts Movement Business District Community Development Corporation & Dr. Ayodele Nzinga, the City of Oakland’s inaugural Oakland Poet Laureate in 2021; free food from local vendors with Asian, Jamaican and Ethiopian roots; free COVID testing & vaccines; and more.
AHS held this event for the community to demonstrate support and to highlight the important services they offer to survivors of crime, hate or violence, including mental health resources, systems navigation support, and victim assistance funds.
