West Oakland Health’s Commitment to Community Outreach

West Oakland Health’s (WOH) mission is to improve the health and socioeconomic status of their community by providing the highest quality of preventative care and treatment for their diverse neighbors throughout the East Bay. They strive to be a hub of health, well-being, connection, and inspiration.

WOH is committed to addressing chronic, preventable diseases that often disproportionately affect Black communities, as well as other communities of color and low-income communities, one of the ways that they do this is with direct outreach to their communities through their health fairs. WOH partners with local community-based organizations to provide the community with educational and outreach materials in a fun, family-friendly manner.

Most recently, they partnered with the National Council of Negro Women and Friendship Christian Center to host “HealthFest 2022” a fun and safe place for patients and community members alike to celebrate getting back together as well as learning more about the healthcare services that WOH provides to all members of their communities.

WOH provided COVID testing and vaccinations, blood pressure screenings, A1C screenings, dental screenings for children, information about CalFresh and Covered California enrollment, behavioral health information, and job opportunities at West Oakland Health. All these services were provided in partnership with the Alameda County Registrar of Voters, SEIU, Legal Assistance for Seniors, Cancer Community Support, and West Oakland Senior Center.

The atmosphere was one of collaboration and celebrations complete with music, free food and Jersey Girl lactose-free ice cream, and Line Dancing to get people moving, as well as a fire truck from the Oakland Fire Department for kids to enjoy climbing onto and for the community to meet the fire fighters who serve them.
