California’s Medi-Cal program has entered a period of change, with new enrollment restrictions and care delivery changes affecting some immigrant populations that began in 2026 and will continue into 2027. While most beneficiaries will see no change to their coverage, those impacted may experience shifts from managed care to Fee-for-Service Medi-Cal and changes to eligibility or benefits. As these transitions unfold, timely renewals and updated contact information will be critical to maintaining uninterrupted access to care. Starting January 1, 2027, some beneficiaries will transition from managed care plans to Fee-for-Service Medi-Cal, changing how they access care but not eliminating coverage. Additional changes scheduled for 2027 include new premiums and reduced dental benefits for certain adult immigrant populations. Importantly, most Medi-Cal members, including U.S. citizens, children, pregnant individuals, foster youth, and many other eligible groups, will continue to receive comprehensive health coverage, making it essential for beneficiaries to keep their contact information current and respond promptly to renewal notices to avoid disruptions in care.
