Teamwork at community health centers breeds innovation. Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center’s Quality and Compliance team enables its clinics to safely and efficiently offer lifesaving care. The members of the Facilities Department at LifeLong Medical Care not only make sure clinics run like high performance buildings, they are also the faces and voices making every patient feel welcome. At Native American Health Center, the Chronic Disease and Prevention Management staff has expanded its patient care and action research from a focus on diabetes to a wide range of prevention efforts.
These health center employees demonstrate how working together improves health access, quality, and outcomes for the underserved. To recognize their contributions, the Alameda Health Consortium and its sister organization Community Health Center Network hosted their annual Clinic Appreciation Awards as part of National Health Center Week at Jack London Square in Oakland on Friday, August 18. Joining them, East Bay policymaker staff came to learn about health center accomplishments and innovations. Keynote speaker Janet A. Liang, President, Kaiser Permanente Northern California, connected the missions of health centers and her organization’s community health focus. She described the factors determining health, noting that Kaiser, like its partners in community health centers, focuses on factors like housing, safety, and education when assessing and treating patient populations. She voiced support for health centers’ continued work to provide medical, dental and mental health services to the underserved.
